Annual accounts, built from your books
TaxPip builds your micro-entity (FRS 105) accounts from the books you have already reviewed and tags them in iXBRL. You, or your accountant, file them with Companies House. Sending them from TaxPip is planned, but it is not available.
To Companies House9 months after your year end
Who needs it
Every UK limited company files annual accounts with Companies House, including a company that did not trade. TaxPip makes the micro-entity (FRS 105) kind. Whether your company is a micro-entity is for the directors to confirm: the micro-entity accounts guide sets out the test.
The accounts are due nine months after the end of the company's accounting reference period, and the first accounts have a rule of their own. The first accounts guide explains it, and the deadlines page shows how every date is worked out.
How it works here
The books are the source
The accounts come from the double-entry books you have reviewed, so every figure traces back to a payment. Nothing is typed in a second time.
Add what the books cannot say
An owner enters the details the accounts need that the books do not hold, such as the company's directors. Each entry is recorded in the trail.
Review and approve
An owner reads the figures and the checks the software ran, then approves the pack. Its files are locked from then on: what is sent is exactly what you approved.
File it, and keep the result
You, or your accountant, file the accounts with Companies House, using the step-by-step guide and the bundle of files in the pack, and record the result. Sending them from TaxPip is planned, but it is not available.
What to have ready
- The company's bank statements for the whole accounting period, uploaded and reviewed.
- The details the accounts need that the books cannot give, entered once for the year.
- The company's authentication code from Companies House, if you file the accounts yourself.
What you will see once it is sent
Sending a filing from TaxPip is planned, but it is not available. When it is, every filing is saved before it is sent and followed until the authority has decided. These are the only states it can be in, and they only move forward.
Sending
Saved first, then sent. A crash cannot leave a filing that nobody has a record of.
Received
The authority has the message and has not decided.
Accepted
The authority has accepted it. The answer is kept with the filing.
Or it stops somewhere else
Rejected
The authority has said why not, and its reason is shown as it was sent.
Refused
The authority refused the message itself, so nothing was filed.
Unknown
The reply was lost, so there is no telling whether it arrived. It is never sent a second time by itself: you ask the authority, or say it never arrived.
What it covers, and what it does not
Micro-entity accounts only.
FRS 102 Section 1A accounts and full accounts are not covered, and nor is a company that is not a micro-entity.
Built first for companies that let property.
The categories, the reports and the tax rules are written for them, and other kinds of business are not covered yet.
Tagged and checked.
The accounts are tagged to the FRC taxonomy and checked against its rules before they leave.
A working draft.
No accountant has reviewed the calculations. Check the figures, or have them checked, before anything is sent.
Questions
Do I file accounts if the company did not trade?
Yes. Every limited company files annual accounts, trading or not. A company that was dormant for the whole year has its own, shorter, accounts: see dormant company accounts.
Can I file the accounts another way?
Yes. Companies House accepts accounts through filing software, and its own WebFiling service takes them until 1 April 2028. Every pack also comes with a guide and a bundle of files, so the accounts can be filed another way, by you or by your accountant.
Who submits the accounts to Companies House?
You do, or your accountant. TaxPip does not send them: it gives you the pack, a step-by-step guide and a bundle of files. Sending them from TaxPip is planned, but it is not available.
